18 Beliefs

“Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around.”
- Henry David Thoreau

I don't know why but I feel like explaining the things that I strongly believe in. Not just my religious beliefs even though those are obviously very important to me. These are my beliefs, that are almost goals for myself. They are the things that I wish to make habits in my life. It's not a bad thing to look at your life and decide to make goals that will only help you in achieving something better for yourself. I'm not trying to say that I'm not incredibly blessed, but there is so much out there to learn, experiences to gain, and little blessings to appreciate that will help me to grow. These are things that through my short 18 years of existence, I feel are important qualities/habits for everyone to gain.

So I've decided (since I have nothing else exciting to blog about) to list 18 beliefs of mine (one for every year I've lived).

(These are in no particular order).

1. I believe that serving others can bring you the most happiness in life.

2. I believe you will never be truly satisfied in life unless you can find contentment in any situation no matter the circumstances.

3. I believe that God will give you the strength to get through anything.

4. I believe you will never be happy with the one you love until you’re happy with yourself.

5. I believe that patience is a virtue and you should be grateful for opportunities to practice patience or else it will all come and go too quickly.

6. I believe you should never underestimate the power of a smile.

7. I believe that there’s nothing better than taking a moment to watch the lightning.

8. I believe that no one is alone.

9. I believe that you should always be quick to admit when you’re wrong.

10. I believe that you should always appreciate what you have. You never know what you have until it’s missing from your life.

11. I believe that the only thing anyone needs is for one person to notice them and let them know they’re worth it.

12. I believe there will always be something to look forward to. Only you can decide to look towards the positive or the negative.

13. I believe that no person should settle for ‘average’.

14. I believe you should never sacrifice what you have to get what you want.

15. I believe we should always give without expecting something in return.

16. I believe there are times when a seed is planted and it can grow and accomplish far more than we could ever imagine.

17. I believe that everything happens for a reason.

18. I believe that songs that come from the heart can touch people in ways words can't even begin to express.

Ok, Ok, so I'm not perfect. Half of these beliefs I haven't even begun to practice, but they're important to me. I know, I know, I am so "wise" for an 18 yr. old. Bah ha ha. This was kinda fun though. I sure does put things into perspective for me. Hope others can enjoy it as well.

  1. Oh Lyss - I think you know enough about life to be "wise." There's the fact that you recognize those aspects about your life and that you know what they will do for you if you practice them, or how they have played a part in your life. You will only continue to grow wiser every year!

I know you believe those things. I too believe that everything happens for a reason - I tell that to my friends all the time. It was neat to see that on your list and that you believe it too! Thanks Lyss! :)

  2. Haha so I just decided to check out your blog! I just made a post about goals, and then I came onto your blog and at the beginning of your post you talked about some of the same things as me! I think I want to make a post like this... I've never really thought that hard about things I just believe about life. This was good Alyssa!
